Running Injuries: Why Are We So Stupid?

 by: Michael T. Kershaw

Running and fitness enthusiasts will always have injuries, despite the fact that our equipment (i.e. shoes) is getting better all the time.
The reality is, enthusiasts will exercise in excess and will not generally stop even though the signs and symptoms of an injury are slapping them in the face.

The reason I know this is that I am one of those stubborn runners that will not stop running until I am forced to stop by the injury.
That is problem number one; we feel guilty if we stop exercising before the injury occurs or is severe.
In fact it takes a big slap in the face by our injury that says ?hey stupid, I gave you a warning but you ignored me and now it?s too late and you are seriously injured.?

Problem number two, is even more severe than problem number one.
Problem number two is that even though we know we have an injury and that we can?t run or exercise to the extent we want, we still exercise, just a little less.
Now this is one case where all of those people that don?t understand runners (like my father) will offer good advice, don?t run!

It makes no sense at all to run when you have an injury that is exacerbated by running but we all do it.
We just run a little less often, far, or intensely.
And then what happens after we do this for a while and the injury gets worse or doesn?t get better?
We complain about are stubborn injury and how we can?t train properly and that we are out of shape.

Running is like love, it?s blind.
We can?t see the forest through the trees.
It is obvious, even to runners giving advice to injured runners??.don?t run!

Here is something we runners should try just once to see how well it works:

It really sounds simple and obvious but I personally don?t know one serious fitness enthusiast or runner that has followed this plan when injured.
Invariably, the runner will continue to exercise until the injury is so bad that running is difficult or impossible.
This results in setbacks that are ten times as long as they could have been.
There is no doubt that if one follows this simple advice, the injury will heal and they will be back on the road in a very short period of time.
Seriously, just try it and you will see!

Exercise at Christmas Without the Gym

Exercise at Christmas Without the Gym

 by: Janice Elizabeth Small

Gyms get pretty deserted around Christmas time. Everyone is so busy with preparations, parties and people visiting that it's hard to fit in getting there, getting changed and going through a routine as regularly as you might the rest of the year.

But don't give up on exercise completely - you'll find it far harder to get back in the swing of things if you do. Make exercise part of the fun and keep yourself ticking over until it's time to get back to the gym in January. Maybe you'll enjoy the alternatives so much you'll never go back!

1. Do less

Just do ten minutes if that's all you can manage. Ten minutes of anything - walking around the house or stair stepping or skipping or rebounding - anything that fits your level of fitness and the equipment you have available at home. You can do it in the morning before your shower and it will energise you for everything you...

A Weight Loss Plan For Success

A Weight Loss Plan For Success

 by: Jude Wright

The formula for losing weight is simple: eat less and exercise more. But, it's not really all that simple, is it?

Long-term weight loss isn't impossible, but you do have to be committed. Having a weight loss plan for your success is a good start. Here are ten items that should go into your weight loss plan.

1. Eat breakfast. This keeps you from getting too hungry later and then losing control over what you choose to eat later in the day.

2. Stock your refrigerator and pantry with healthy foods and snacks and limit high-fat, high-salt snacks such as potato chips and cookies.

3. Fill up on Fiber. Eat foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The fibers in these foods will fill you up leaving less room for unhealthy choices.

4. Don't fall into bad habits on weekends. Many people will follow a strict diet on weekends only to fall back into eating more (unhealthy) on the...

I realize this sounds like a broken record, but if you want to loose weight and keep it off then you need weight loss exercise as part of your routine! Whether you think ?but I don't want to exercise, I hate exercise, I don't need to exercise?... or whatever other excuse you might have, the fact is weight loss exercise is the key to success.

The bottom line is you can join whatever fad diet you want.. if you do not start a weight loss exercise routine then your chances of successful weight loss will be dropped dramatically. Sure you will loose some weight, after all that is achieved simply by consuming less calories then your body requires to function. The problem is simply starving your body causes it to go into a fasting state. This is a defensive move that your body takes to help you survive, what happens is your metabolism slows down which in turn gives you a felling a fatigue plus...
